Introducing Deep Zoom Publisher

Deep Zoom Publisher is a command-line (currently, GUI to come) tool that enables you to easily 'publish' a number of images OR an Xps document to the web using Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 Deep Zoom technology. Deep Zoom Publisher will:

  • Import a folder of photos - parsing out the title, description and tags for display
  • Render an XPS document (printed from Word, PowerPoint, Excel or any other program) to images page-by-page
  • Process PDF documents (with additional software)
  • Generate a Deep Zoom Collection and provide a ready-made Silverlight 2.0 Xap application to view it

Frequently asked Questions

What is Deep Zoom?

Deep Zoom is the 'marketing name' of a new feature of Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 - the actual Silverlight 2.0 Control is called MultiScaleImage. It started out as a Microsoft Live Labs project called Seadragon.

The definitive Deep Zoom example is currently the Hard Rock Cafe Memoribilia Collection which was demo'ed at MIX08.

What about Deep Zoom Composer?

Deep Zoom Composer is a free tool provided by Microsoft to help construct static 'layouts' of your images for display using Deep Zoom.

The focus on 'layout' is what differentiates Composer from Deep Zoom Publisher - Publisher does not have a design surface where you position images relative to each other; instead it parses metadata from the images (title, description, tags, ratings) and uses that information to provide more interactive views of the images.

What are the system requirements for Deep Zoom Publisher

  1. Windows XP or Vista
  2. Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1
